Coming soon: Conversation group on Saint Paul Zoning policy

The City of Saint Paul is currently studying the possibility of amending its zoning code’s policies regarding areas zoned “Residential-Single-Family.” 

We have been told that they are considering allowing small-scale multi-family dwellings such as duplexes and triplexes to be built within single-family zones, but only along arterial and collector streets. We think such a move would be woefully inadequate; it’s past time for Saint Paul to allow duplexes, triplexes, and other missing middle housing in all residential areas — not just on a few more busy streets.

Our board member Merritt Clapp-Smith is planning to establish a new conversation group on this topic. The vision is to convene with people from all over the city, both members of Sustain Saint Paul and of various other organizations, to share stories and opinions about zoning policy and to begin building a city-wide vision for updating the zoning code around which we can unite and advocate.
