  • Term expires: 2023

James moved to Saint Paul after graduate school in 2013 and has lived in an apartment in Summit Hill ever since. It was the walkability and the abundant local stores, restaurants and amenities that attracted him to the neighborhood. He enjoys walking and biking, both for the exercise and the environmental benefits, as well as the street level perspective it affords – you see a lot more of the city when you can get out of your car.

With an eye toward systems, he sees the value in dense and abundant housing – it is a key building block in improving the viability and efficiency of transit, in supporting the tax base, in improving energy efficiency, in supporting local business, and in relieving pressure on housing costs.

James works as a planning engineer for MISO, coordinating and planning the future of the electrical grid. Outside of work, he is a board member and violist in the East Metro Symphony Orchestra. He also serves on the Summit Hill Association board and chairs its Environmental Committee. He has been a member of the Summit Hill Community Garden for several years.

His other interests include energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities, exploring the streets and the history of Saint Paul, connecting with friends through soccer and bar trivia, and having fun on bikes.
