Summit Avenue reconstruction process — what is next?

Summit Avenue master planning and reconstruction have generated a lot of buzz and controversy in local media in the last few months, but what is happening with the City’s process?

Currently, city staff are drafting a master plan for public review and comment, anticipated for unveiling this fall at an open house. Following will be an opportunity for the public to submit comments on the master plan. Then, the city will publish a revised master plan with another opportunity for public comment. After development of a final plan, it will proceed through a multi-body approval process slated for early next year.

To study up on the latest information from the City, check out the slides from the July 8 Planning Commission meeting and the September 8 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. These lay out the project context, schedule, and process steps; what the City heard from community engagement thus far; and trail design alternatives.

Sustain Saint Paul strongly supports safety and usability upgrades across the entirety of Summit Avenue, and will notify our members and friends when there are project updates.
