May 2022 recap — an evening with Portland: Neighbors Welcome

Our board supports zoning reform, and we have very special guests from Portland speaking about zoning at our May meeting! We heard from:

• Henry Honorof from Portland: Neighbors Welcome

Highlights from the presentation:

• Neil and Henry are leaders at Portland: Neighbors Welcome, an organization that advocates for pro-housing and pro-tenant policies in Portland. In partnership with a coalition of grassroots organizations, their advocacy resulted in sweeping reforms to Portland's zoning code, which have legalized four units of housing on every residential lot in the city, and up to six for projects that meet affordability benchmarks.

• Neil and Henry will share insights and lessons learned from their successful campaign in Portland; we expect that their wisdom will help inform our advocacy for zoning reforms through Saint Paul's ongoing 1-4 unit housing study.
