In Saint Paul, both renters and homebuyers have faced challenges due to the city’s (and the broader region’s) lack of housing availability. Rental vacancy rates and home buying inventories have been too low, driving up prices for everybody. This is an outcome of failing to build enough housing in our city, despite our growing population.

While we wait for the City’s planning team to release their draft 1-4 unit housing proposal, we are building a coalition of organizations for more housing choice to support the policy when it reaches the Planning Commission and City Council. To ease our housing crisis, we support efforts to promote the “missing middle": a range of multi-family or clustered housing types, such as duplexes and rowhomes, that are compatible in scale with single-family or transitional neighborhoods.
